goalrushHey you guys!!!! In the worst kept secret since the Charlie Crist candidacy announcement, today’s the big day that all the local powers of finance and governance converge for an expensive and sportsmanlike high five! Against all odds, Phil Rawlins and his Orlando City Soccer Lions managed, in a spate of a few months, to convince city, state and county officials – in addition to the brass behind Major League Soccer – that what will save Orlando from itself is a new soccer stadium that allows us a new franchise. Wherever you land on the public funding argument, there’s no denying that this makes yet another remarkable chance to drink in public and make a lot of grunting noises! The first big soccer announcement came yesterday, when Orlando Health agreed to continue its lead sponsorship of the local league at an undisclosed cost. HOORAY HEALTH! But buried in the bottom of this story is your invitation to inquiry.

Rawlins invited fans to attend the MLS announcement Tuesday, at the Cheyenne Saloon, 128 W. Church St.

There will be music, carnival games and other activities outside on Church Street starting at 5 p.m., with the announcement scheduled at 6 p.m.

PARTY!!!! Oh, and according to Gov. Rick Scott’s offfice, you can expect an appearance from his chrome dome – along with the bouncing heads of Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs and Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer – sometime around 6:45 p.m. GO GET PURPLE!
